Hello Travel Family! Today I am excited to bring this blog post not only from me but my significant other who lived in the Duluth, MN area for 6 years! Traveling up to the North Shore/Duluth has been a staple in our relationship and it was one of the first road trips we took together! Today we are going to share some of our favorite places to visit while in Duluth. Things to do: Canal Park / Duluth’s Aerial Lift Bridge Canal Park is home to lodging, dinning, entertainment, shopping, and a beautiful view of the lake. You can get close up views of the ships as they pass under the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge! https://canalpark.com/ http://www.goduluthmn.com/best-duluth-attractions/aerial-lift-bridge/ Two Harbors Lighthouse Two Harbors Lighthouse is one of the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on Minnesota’s North Shore. They have a museum and a bed and breakfast that are open to the public. For more information please visit: https://www.lakecountyhistoricalsociety.org/museums/view/two-harbors-light-station Split Rock Lighthouse Split Rock Lighthouse is a huge staple for photography in the area and for good reason. The lighthouse is beautiful and they have multiple different hiking trails near to see it from many different views. The history and information that they share is also very intriguing and can make for not only a gorgeous visit but an educational one as well! For more information please visit: http://www.mnhs.org/splitrock Gooseberry Falls State Park Gooseberry is one of the prime vacation hot spots to visit when in the area! They are well known for not only their wonderful waterfalls but also the trails all around. You could spend hours here taking pictures and enjoying the peace. We highly recommend going during less crowded times. We went in the fall when it was cool so we had the place to ourselves. Lake Superior Maritime Visitors Center A wonderful museum that shares the voyage of the Great Lakes. This is another wonderful educational spot! Enger Park and Enger Tower This is the spot if you are looking for time out doors, a little history, a little exercise, and an amazing view. The park has beautiful gardens, the Japanese peace bell, and an expanded Japanese garden. Once in the tour you have a panoramic view overlooking Duluth. For more information please visit: http://www.engertowerduluth.com/info.html Lake Superior Railroad Museum The museum holds the Historic Union Depot that was built in 1892. The history even comes alive during summer and fall for train rides! http://lsrm.org/ Bentleyville IF you have not heard of Bentleyville you are missing out! Every year Duluth puts on the largest free walk through light display in America! Bundle up because it will be cold on the 20 acre park on the shores of Lake Superior, but it is well worth it! Beautiful lights, visits with santa, hot cocoa, cookies, and more! A winter and holiday lover's dream! https://www.bentleyvilleusa.org/ Black Beach
A hidden gem with black sand! https://superiorhiking.com/black-beach/ Duluth Haunted Ship Ready to get your scare on during the fall? Me personally… not a fan since I am a huge scaredy cat! Brandon on the other hand loves it. They have local actors who participate in the haunting. https://duluthhauntedship.com/ Places to Eat/Drink: Uncle Loui’s Where do I even start… We literally go here for breakfast at least one time every trip. Make sure to get there early because it is a very small restaurant and gets packed fast! Some of our favorite foods include: Gyros Scrambler, Homemade Pancakes, Taco Omelette, and the Country Fried Steak! http://unclelouiscafe.com/index.html The Other Place Locals call it The OP. Their chicken alfredo pizza and The Other Place Burger are some of our top favorites! This place has a good selection of food for great prices! https://theotherplacemn.com/ The Anchor Bar Although technically in Superior, WI we could not leave it off the list! They have the best burgers around in this small unique place. They were featured on the show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives! https://anchorbarandgrill.com/ 7 West Tap House in Duluth The original home of the BeerBurger-- have you noticed yet that we really like burgers? They also have some of the best fries I have had. I love that they have tons of options for seasonings that they will put on them for you so you know they are fresh and hot! http://www.7westtaphouse.com/downtown-duluth PickWick Restaurant and Pub Well known for their steaks and homemade soup. http://pickwickduluth.com/ Betty’s Pies After you visit Gooseberry and Split Rock Lighthouse you MUST stop at Betty’s Pies! They have the best world famous pies and we love their simple menu too! https://bettyspies.com/ Black Water Lounge They have a wide variety of martinis and have live music often! Great place to start for before or after dinner drinks. http://www.blackwaterlounge.com/ We did not share places to stay, but if you would like information or quotes on recommended hotels please feel free to reach out for your complimentary quote at [email protected]. With many people social distancing, staying home, and having to reschedule (cough cough… I said reschedule and not cancel) travel plans… I know there are tons of movies, TV shows, and social media to peruse. But, let’s try to engage our minds and have an experience together! I thought it would be fun to look at some virtual tours you can do from the comfort of your own home! Please keep in mind this post has TONS of links, I am not affiliated with any of these locations/links nor am I paid by them.
Put on your traveling shoes and get your snacks… let's go on a virtual adventure together! MUSEUMS AND ART GALLERIES
ZOOS AND AQUARIUMS
AND MORE!
Anyone else exhausted from all of those adventures and maybe a little hungry since we ate all the snacks before we even finished the third virtual tour? I hope you all enjoyed this time together! With Love, Alexandria Explore Confidently P.S. Keep following my Facebook page! P.S.S. Share this blog on Pinterest Welcome back Explore Confidently family! I wanted to share my top nine social distancing travel ideas when it comes to social distancing or just staying at home. I am sure many of us are starting to get a little stir crazy, so lets have some fun! This is a short list of ideas for you! IF you have more please share in the comments!
1. Go hiking in your local state park. I personally like to use my local state DNR website. For those of us from Minnesota here is a link that shows all of the MN state parks! Not from Minnesota? No worries! Here is a great site I found from the National Forest Foundation that has 16 National Forests near National Parks! 2. Have each person in your family make a list of their top 10 travel destinations they want to go to. Then see how many are similar to each other! 3. Plan your next trip! What information do you need to plan your next trip you may ask… Set a budget, a general date of travel, and choose one to two locations you wish to go. Next create a list of what you want to do while on vacation and if you want it to be relaxing, adventurous, or something all together. The final step… contact me! As your favorite ;) travel agent, I will do all of the hard work for you! 4. Watch a travel movie With everyone being stuck at home please feel free to share with us in the comments what travel movie you are watching. Maybe we will start a blog about top ten travel movies. 5. Read a travel book I personally LOVE to read and enjoy being swept away into far away lands! Share with us what travel books you are reading, maybe your review will make our next blog! 6. Try a recipe from one of the places you plan to travel to! Don’t forget to document it with photos and videos and share that recipe with us. I found this fun blog with tons of recipes over at https://recipesaroundtheworld.com/ or Taste of Home always have great ideas. 7. Learn some phrases in a different language This is one area as a travel agent that I lack in… knowing multiple languages is not my strong suite. But there are so many different free resources out there for you to use. Just after a quick google search I came upon this article with multiple must know phrases! 8. Participate in free virtual tours Keep your eyes peeled, as very soon I will have a post with over 60 different virtual tours you can go on right from your own home! 9. Date Night/Family Night/Roommate Night/Solo Night Take some time for you! I know everyone is in very different situations right now but have a night with just you and those you live with. This is what we are doing tonight. Because I am working my travel business from home today we agreed that starting at 5 p.m. there will be no work, no cleaning, and just date night! We found some favorite take out, find a movie, and just enjoy each other's company. We both are working still, since we are essential, so for us not much has changed. So we REALLY need this time together! What are you doing this weekend? With Love, Alexandria Explore Confidently P.S. Don’t forget to follow me on Facebook and join our Explore Confidently VIP Group! What makes me expert enough to create a blog about all things travel? That is a great question, let me introduce myself a little more in depth. I have been a travel agent and a coach for travelpreneurs since September of 2019. As a travel agent, I book travel for my customers all over the world. I can book cruises, all-inclusive vacations, resorts, car rentals, family travel, honeymoons, destination weddings, tours, concerts, travel insurance, and MUCH MORE! I am here for my clients and help put a personal touch on their travel. Instead of them having to stress and research, they let me do all the hard work for them! As a coach for travelpreneurs, I train and mentor individuals who wish to start and grow their own travel business! I LOVE education and am always looking for something new to learn. Which makes the travel industry a great place for me to be because there is always something to gain more knowledge about so I can help my clients.
